about

This song was written by Henry Butch Kwan. I'm including it here as a tribute to my best friend and lifelong music partner. RIP Butch. He is singing lead and John W. Smith and I are singing backups. Butch is also playing lead electric on his Stratocaster.

lyrics

You thought that you would live happily ever after
A house and a new car putting you deeper in debt
You took the credit 'cause you didn't have the money
The bubble has broken you're left holding the bag

American dream
Don't fade away
American dream
Who'll save the day
American dream
The cost is too high
American dream
On the line

You lost your job and the bank has foreclosed on your dream
Homeless and hungry now you're out on the street
You drive a jalopy your front yard is sloppy, overgrown
Worry and panic just won't leave you alone

We elected you to save us
A choice we might regret
You gave a bailout to Wall Street
Nothing from Main Street yet
American dream

Our kind will save the banks and corporations
They don't care if we get left behind
If empty stores on Main Street are an indication
Prosperity's gone we do what we can to survive

American dream
Don't fade away
American dream
Who'll save the day
American dream
The cost is too high
American dream
On the line

American Dream
